Our panel, "Funding History Faculty Research in the Twenty-First Century: Public, Private/Internal, External," will address the question raised in point six of the Conference Call, namely, how humanities faculty can cooperate with museums, historical societies, humanities councils, and libraries. Our panel will discuss issues such as: Should we be funding content or access to technology? What criteria do we use to judge funding requests that feature technology? How should agencies increase their technological prowess to support history and the humanities, e.g., should they be technological resources for teachers or maintain a focus on traditional topics such as reading and critical reasoning? Where do funders, who may not be current with technology, turn to for help in discerning what technology is important and appropriate for humanities teaching? How should colleges allocate money internally for technology and scholarship?
