Answer: If you will not have access to your email for a significant period of time, and want to prevent your H-Net mail from filling your inbox, you can temporarily suspend email delivery by sending the following command to listserv@h-net.msu.edu: SET listname NOMAIL example: SET H-Women NOMAIL When you return, you can resume receiving mail by sending the following command: SET listname MAIL example: SET H-Women MAIL How can receive one message a day from a network? Answer: There are two options to do this, INDEX and DIGEST. An INDEX is a list of that days messages; a DIGEST is a compilation of that days messages into one large message. To set your subscription to INDEX, send the following command to listserv@h-net.msu.edu : SET listname INDEX example: SET H-Women INDEX To set your subscription to DIGEST, send the following command to Listserv: SET listname DIGEST example: SET H-Women DIGESTTo resume receiving all messages as they are posted, send the following command: SET listname MAIL example: SET H-Women MAIL What do I do if I changed my email address? Answer: If you still have access to your OLD email address, send the following command to listserv@h-net.msu.edu from your OLD address: CHANGE listname newaddressIf you don't have access to your old address, send the following information to your current list editor: your old address, What does it mean when I'm "served out?" Answer: If you have sent a certain number of unsuccessful commands to listserv, listserv will "serve you out", which means that it will no longer process commands from your email address. To rectify this situation, have someone with a different email address than yours send the following message to listserv@h-net.msu.edu: SERVE youremailaddressListserv will then begin to accept commands from you again. Listserve will not accept my command. Why? Answer: There are several possible solutions to why listserv will not accept a command from your email address. First, all commands to listserv must consist of only the command; no signature files or other text can be included. If you use diacritical marks in your email, make sure that this is turned off when sending commands to listserv, since it cannot process them. If you do use diacritical marks, listserv will probably reject your command. Have you changed email addresses recently? If so, make sure that listserv has your current address. You may need to subscribe to the network in question again, from your new address. You should also have your old address removed from the network. Are you subscribed to the network? Commands will not function if you are not subscribed to the network in question. You can find out if you are subscribed to a particular network by sending the following command to listserv@h-net.msu.edu: QUERY listname example: QUERY H-Women Listserv stopped sending me H-Net mail. What happened? Answer: Listserv automatically deletes addresses that bounce messages for five days or 100 messages. If your email provider has experienced technical difficulties, or if your mailbox is full, it is possible that listserv was not able to deliver mail to your address. If an address continues to bounce messages for five days, or if 100 messages bounce, then the address is removed from the network. To determine if you are suscribed to an H-NET network, send the following command to listserv@h-net.msu.edu: QUERY listname example: QUERY H-Women How do I change my name on my subscription?
