Yes of course you are right. I am always in a quandry about this. I say
England and not Britain in some contexts so as not to upset the other
members of the union by a generalisation, and sometimes obviously fail.
But Tom what did the Scots produce musically between 1695 and 1880? I can
only think of the Beethoven settings of Scottish folksongs. There was a
chappie called Robert Carver who died in 1546. But apart from that I
can't think of any Scottish composer in my period, but I'm keen to be
enlightened. Thank god we are both Queenslanders! Ann
