********** Bibliography Survey *************

TO: H-CivWar Discussion Group

We want your help in developing a bibliography of the sources most used
(or deemed to be of significant value) by Civil War historians.
of the sources most often cited by experts. We're assuming, or course,
that subscribers to H-CivWar are experts.

Our methodology also assumes that some suggested titles may reflect a very
narrow or specialized research interest. We expect other sources to be
general. Our goal is to develop a bibliography of titles most
often cited by historians--whether general or specialized.

If you will, please send to Kit Rushing at the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga (krushing@utcvm.utc.edu) a listing of five to ten
sources you've found to be most valuable to your research. You might
also cite titles you always include on lists of recommended readings...
and too... you may want to cite titles you think are just so wonderful you
keep copies on your bedside table for a quick nightly review before you
pull up the covers and turn-out the light.

This is the basic form we're using (see Campbell, Ballou, Slade. _Form
and Style_. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1990):

Author Last Name, Author First Name. _Title_. City of Publication:
Publisher, Date.

Your Comments.

If you find faxing more convenient, our fax number is (615) 755-4695.

We expect the analysis to take several weeks, because (unlike what you'll
probably do) not all members of H-CivWar will respond within hours of
receiving our request. However, we will end data collection and begin the
analysis before the end of the month (August).

Thank you for taking time to help us with this project. We'll share
with you our findings!
