In an effort to stir up activity on h-civwar and, more important, to
realize some of the benefits of cyberhistory, let me ask a question of
list members who regularly do historical research in libraries and
archives. Simply put, how do you do it? If you use something other than
note cards and ballpoints or yellow tablets and pencils, what do you
use? Notebook computers? Portable typewriters? If computers, what
software do you use? A standard word processor (e.g., WordPerfect,
etc.)? A bibliographic software package? A text database (e.g., askSam)?
In other words, this is a request to share with your colleagues any
tricks of the trade you have developed, whether with note cards or
computers. You may help fellow list members become more efficient.
