We've had several inquiries about our summer program, so I thought I would
prepare a brief summary of our Institute to address some of the questions
that were raised.

Gettysburg College hosts an annual summer Civil War conference
which focuses on a different battle or theme. The conference is always
held in late June/early July and cost varies contingent on the lodging
selected.

Beginning in 1991 proceedings from the "key speakers" were
published into book form: WHY THE CONFEDERACY LOST (Oxford U.P.). The
'92 and '93 books are due out in the fall: LINCOLN'S GENERALS and WHY THE
CIVIL WAR CAME (both published by Oxford U.P.). The '94 book is slated
for a '95 publication date: WAR COMES AGAIN: CIVIL WAR/WORLD WAR II:
COMPARATIVE VISTAS (Oxford U.P.).

We limit enrollment to 275 participants and (I'm pleased to
report) have filled to capacity every year, with a rapidly growing waiting
list of hopeful attendees. We already have 150 pre-registered for our '95
session which will focus on Gettysburg: "The Gettysburg Nobody Knows," and
the dates are June 25-July 1. We also sponsor high school scholarships
for juniors as well as several scholarships for high school history teachers.
