Apparently, it was not uncommon for one of three battalions in a
regiment to be Zouave. I believe this was done because Zouaves were so
popular and not necessarily because the unit had done anything
outstanding. For a brief but interesting book on the Zouaves, see
_Zouaves_ by Michael F. McAfee.
