Two additional sources for order-of-battle information:
_The Union Army, 1861-1865: Organization and Operations_ by Frank J.
Welcher is published in two volumes, with Volume I covering the Eastern
Theatre. Although it is based on the Official Records (as is Dyer's
_Compendium_) it is sometimes easier to use than either of those sources.
There are also many war games that cover Civil War battles. My experience
is that several of them have the best order of battle information
published and available today. Personally, if a game were available, I
would start at the game and check/confirm with other sources rather than
start from scratch. The best game on the Wilderness Campaign is _Bloody
Roads South_ designed by H-CIVWAR subscriber Jim Epperson. Unfortunately,
the OB is at the brigade (and not regimental) level.
