Bibliography on Antisemitism Project of SICSA SICSA - the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism SICSA is an interdisciplinary research center founded in 1982, dedicated to an independent, non-political approach to the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge necessary for understanding the phenomenon of antisemitism. The Center engages in research on antisemitism through the ages, focusing on relations between Jews and non-Jews, particularly in situations of tension and crisis. Yehuda Bauer, Chairman; Shmuel Almog, Director; Sue Fox, Assistant Director Bibliography on Antisemitism Project Otto Dov Kulka, Academic Committee Advisor; Susan S. Cohen, Editor-in-Chief; Rosalind Arzt, Managing Editor Background and Objectives The Bibliography Project of SICSA was initiated in 1983. The purpose of the project is two-fold: to create an online database of articles and books about antisemitism appearing world-wide in many languages, and to publish it in book form. Each item includes a complete bibliographic description and an abstract of contents relevant to antisemitism. Antisemitic works are not listed. The bibliography staff of SICSA, based at the Jewish National and University Library (JNUL) in Jerusalem, registers and annotates all pertinent material, beginning with items published in 1984. This information is entered online into the Aleph library network of the Hebrew University, making the material accessible to students and scholars at various university libraries in Israel. Antisemitism: An Annotated Bibliography, Vol. 1 (1984-85), published in 1987 by Garland Publishing of New York, contains 1252 items and two appendixes: "Current Antisemitic Periodicals" and "Bibliographies on Antisemitism and the Holocaust Published Prior to 1984." Volume 2 (1986-87) will be ready for publication in the fall of 1989. Beginning with Volume 3, coverage of the Holocaust will be more comprehensive. Current Status of the Bibliography Project: - The database contains approximately 2600 items. - Volume 1 has been published, Volume 2 is in preparation, and collection for material has begun for Volumes 3 (1988) and 4 (1989). Beginning with Volume 2, each volume will contain material from previous years which was not entered in the preceding volume. - The present staff of the project includes an editor, assistant editor, managing and technical editors, and a staff of abstractors proficient in many languages, including English, Hebrew, Yiddish, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, and Hungarian. Future Plans: - To continue listing and abstracting current material. - To add material describing Jewish experiences during the Holocaust period, beginning with Volume 3. - To publish a bibliography of material from and about Poland on cultural antisemitism between the two World Wars. - To list retrospective material using the collection of the Jewish National and University Library. - To publish a bibliographical listing of items on antisemitism from Lithuanian newspapers between the two World Wars.
