I've got an M.A. in U.S. history with a concentration in historic preservation from Wake Forest University and a Ph.D. in early American history from the College of William and Mary. My career started in the museum field--working as an assistant to the director of a small house museum which we set up, and then in a variety of positions at Colonial Williamsburg (mainly curatorial) while I worked on my Ph.D. at W&M. I've got a special interest in material culture which is especially important in doing good history exhibits, and I try to stay current in the field (although I teach public history now) by working volunteer at the Arkansas Territorial Restoration, a small restored area in downtown Little Rock. I'm on the list to hear what people have to say and answer questions when I can.
Research interests include: early American, women, the south, artisans, and material culture.
Teaching interests include: U.S. Survey to 1877, U.S. Survey from 1877; U.S. Social and Intellectual; U.S. Women; Material Culture I & II; History Museum Interpretation; History Museum Management; Exhibits in the History Museum.
I belong to the American Association of Museums, the Southern Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, the Southern Association of Women Historians, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
