The Department of Jewish Studies at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick, NJ) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position, beginning Fall 2018, at the Assistant Professor rank in the field of Israel Studies. The position will be located in the Department of Jewish Studies, with the possibility of a joint appointment in the department of the applicant’s area of expertise.
Qualifications: Ph.D. is required by the beginning of the appointment.
Open to scholars in all disciplines with an accomplished record of scholarship in Israel Studies; priority given to scholars whose research addresses cross-cultural relations within Israel, among Israel and its neighbors, and/or between Israel and diaspora Jewry. Fields of specialization may include, but are not limited to, Israeli history, culture, politics; the sociology, anthropology, religion, or literature of Israel. The ability to teach about Arab-Israeli relations is a high priority, as is the ability to engage thoughtfully and sensitively with a diverse student body at a public university. Fluency in Modern Hebrew is required; proficiency in other languages spoken in Israel, especially Arabic, is highly desired.
