The Centre for the Study of Islamic Culture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct research projects and take part in relevant research activities related to Islamic Studies and other activities of the Centre.
Applicants should have (i) at least a doctoral degree in Islamic Studies, Religious Studies, History or a related discipline; (ii) a proven track record of research and publication; (iii) research capability in the studies of Islam in China, e.g. Islam and Chinese culture, Islam and Chinese society; (iv) good command of both spoken and written Chinese (Putonghua) and English, knowledge of Arabic will be an advantage; (v) teaching and lecturing abilities; (vi) the ability to work independently and under pressure; and (vii) the ability to teach Arab Studies courses is strongly desirable.
The appointee will be (a) conducting research related to Islamic Studies for publication; (b) assisting relevant research and publication projects, including writing research proposals, taking part in academic conferences, editing manuscripts for publication, etc.; (c) teach a course or two in Islamic Studies and/or Arab Studies; (d) participating in knowledge transfer activities; and (e) contributing to other academic work conducted by the Centre.
Appointment will be made on contract basis for two years commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
