The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track position in African American literature, to begin Fall 2018. The teaching load for research faculty is normally 2-2, with balanced assignments in upper-division and graduate courses, as well as Auburn’s core curriculum. The successful candidate will help build a strong community of students and scholars in the field. Candidates who can advance the Department’s commitment to diversity through scholarship, creative activity, and innovative teaching and course design are encouraged to apply.
Required qualifications include a PhD in English, African American Studies, or an allied field by the August 16, 2018, appointment date; a strong research and teaching specialization and an academic background in African American literature; a record of publication or scholarship in the field; evidence of successful teaching experience at the college/university level; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the field; significant potential for continued successful research, publication, and other scholarly, professional, and/or creative activities.
Desired qualifications are a strong record of publication or scholarship in the field and successful experience teaching African American literature at the college/university level. The field of specialization within African American studies is open. We are particularly interested in candidates with strength in contemporary literature and culture.
