Franklin College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in History, to begin in August 2018. We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. Located about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis, we support purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual and professional growth. This new hire will join the department and the college at a time of exciting change. The historically strong History program is committed to delivering fundamentals needed in the market today through increasingly immersive and hands-on methods of teaching and learning. The College is embarking on a similar initiative campus-wide.
The ideal candidate is a generalist with a demonstrated interest in the Global South outside Latin America who can teach an introductory level course on World History since 1750 and upper-level history courses that include either the History of the Middle East or the History of East Asia. Typical teaching load includes 24 semester hours a year and an every-other-year Winter Term class. Broad service to the college, such as advising and committee work, is also required.
Candidates who can demonstrate a dedication to teaching, the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College’s continuing commitment to diversity, and a genuine interest in working with undergraduates in a small-college liberal arts setting will be given preference. PhD or ABD is required for candidates; doctorate will be required for tenure. College-level teaching experience is preferred.
