Earlham College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Religion, a tenure-track position. The position focuses broadly on “Religions” of South/East Asia (from either historical, ethical, social scientific and/or comparative perspectives). The ability to cover Islam is highly desired. The position in the Department of Religion begins in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be comfortable teaching a theories and methods in religion course as well as courses of interest to at least one of the College’s interdisciplinary programs: for example, Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies; Peace & Global Studies; Environmental Sustainability; Medical Humanities. The successful candidate must also be willing to teach in the College’s first-year writing sequence.
Experience & Qualifications
A Ph.D. in hand by the start date is preferred, but not required. Additionally, Earlham, as a nationally ranked liberal arts college that emphasizes enthusiasm for teaching, requires demonstrated teaching excellence, as well as an active research and writing agenda. Applicants should have language competency in their area of expertise.
