The Department of History at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a two-year term appointment in sub-Saharan African history, geographic specialization and periodization open. Ability to teach courses in women’s/gender history and/or environmental history would be welcome as would the ability to contribute more broadly to the department’s curriculum in global, Middle Eastern, and/or Islamic histories. The successful candidate will teach eight courses each year, including surveys in the precolonial, colonial, and modern eras, and upper-division courses to be determined by the successful candidate's areas of specialization. SFU operates year-round, with Fall, Winter, and Summer terms; the successful candidate will be required to teach during at least two of the three terms each year.
The position will begin September 1, 2018, and will be made as a Term Lecturer at a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience as determined by the SFU/SFU Faculty Association Collective Agreement. Preferred qualifications include a completed Ph.D. in African history or a related field, university teaching experience, and a research and publishing record.
