The Department of History at Winthrop University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of History with specialization in African American history. We seek an outstanding teacher and scholar trained to offer undergraduate and graduate courses in African American history as well as undergraduate US history surveys. Period of specialization is open, though ability to offer pre-20th century courses would help meet additional teaching needs. Additional plusses for our programs are the ability to offer specialized courses on Gender and Native American history. The position involves a nine-month, full-time, tenure track appointment, beginning August 2018. Responsibilities include teaching four sections per semester, advising students, continuing research and scholarly activity, and service to the department and university. Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship.
