Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, 2-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History to begin September 1, 2018.
Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in US history with specialization in women/gender history. Candidates must have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates who can teach race in America in intersection with women/gender history are most preferred. Candidates who demonstrate creativity and innovation in teaching and a commitment to diversity and inclusion will also be given preference.
Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching assignment will be five courses (5/7 appointment). Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses on Women in the US, Gender and Sexuality in the US, courses in the candidate’s specialty area, and contributions to general education.

The Gustavus history department offers a dynamic undergraduate liberal arts program that emphasizes global history, the study of social constructions in history, and a capstone experience where seniors pursue independent research projects. The successful applicant for this position will have the opportunity to contribute to the College’s Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Program.
