Assistant Professor: The Department of History at the United States Military Academy at West Point is seeking applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in American History and Diversity Studies. The term appointment, beginning on or about 1 July 2018, is for thirteen months and may be renewed for an additional year. Applicants must be committed to college-level research and teaching. Expertise in American social/labor history from 1890-1950 with a focus on issues pertaining to ethnicity and immigration is required. The fellow will develop three primary source digital course packets for use by 1000 cadets a year for the American Division writing program, educating cadets on the diverse experiences of ethnic minorities and immigrants. The fellow will develop historical questions to accompany the primary source packet, providing cadets with prompts for scholarly paper topics. The fellow will train faculty on how to integrate the themes of ethnicity and immigration in American History. The fellow will also teach a course in American history and possibly an advanced undergraduate seminar in their area(s) of specialty.
Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria: 1) academic accomplishment (a Ph.D. in American History by time of appointment is preferred), 2) demonstrated scholarly potential 3) ability to teach an elective or survey in American history, 4) demonstrated proficiency in student-centered and active-learning instruction, 5) familiarity with digital history sources 6) demonstrated potential to contribute to cadet development.
