The Department of Geosciences in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Associate in Russian/Soviet Studies to start in September 2018. The Postdoctoral Associate in Russian/Soviet Studies will collect, translate, and code spatial data on migration pathways for members of the Kalmyk diaspora in interwar Europe. This position will work with and interpret other archival sources as made available from domestic sources. The Postdoctoral Associate will think creatively about the presentation and communication of spatial data in cartographic and other visual formats and will provide other research assistance as relevant to the project. This position will interact closely with the project director, a graduate student, and other research groups at the University of Arkansas.
The is a one-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in geography, history, or a related field conferred by the start of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in geographic information systems (GIS)
- Demonstrable fluency in the Russian language
- Demonstrated interest in digital humanities and/or spatial analysis
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for this position:
- Knowledge of the Russian language
- Knowledge and experience in geographic information systems (GIS)
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
