Bio: Melissa Labonte is assistant professor of political science at Fordham University. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Brown University and her research and teaching focus includes international nongovernmental organizations, international organizations and international law, multilateral peace operations, post-conflict peacebuilding, conflict resolution, human rights, humanitarian crises, and the politics of humanitarian intervention. In 2004-2005, she was a Visiting Scholar with the Global Security Program at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies and a recipient of the Belfer Family Dissertation Fellowship. From 2002 to 2004 she served as a researcher for the Watson Institute’s Governance in War-Torn Societies project. She has taught previously at the University of Richmond, Brown University, and Providence College. Her recent publications include "Same Car, Different Driver? The Impact of Peacebuilding Partnerships and the Chiefdom System in Sierra Leone," Journal of Peacebuilding and Development (March 2008); “Sierra Leone” (co-authored with Eric G. Berman) in William Durch, ed., Twenty-first Century Peacekeeping (Washington, DC: U.S. Institute for Peace Press); “Dimensions of Post-Conflict Peacebuilding and Democratization,” Global Governance Vol. 9 no. 2 (2003) and “Humanitarian Actors and the Politics of Preventive Action: Is There Room in the Peace-Building Framework?”, in W.
