Bio: Wendy Laura Belcher, Assistant Professor of African Literature in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Center for African American Studies, Princeton University, specializes in medieval, early modern, and modern African literature, working at the intersection of diaspora, postcolonial, and eighteenth-century studies. She has a special interest in the literatures of Northeast Africa. Dr. Belcher has published Honey from the Lion: An African Journey (Dutton, 1988); Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks: A Guide to Academic Publishing Success (Sage, 2009); and Abyssinia’s Samuel Johnson: Ethiopian Thought in the Making of an English Author (Oxford, forthcoming). She received the Fulbright US Scholars Award to spend 2010-2011 in Ethiopia studying seventeenth-century Gəʿəz texts about Ethiopian female saints. She has also published articles on theorizing new models of agency for literary criticism in African studies; on Ethiopian artists and authors; on the Kebra Nagast; and Eritrean cultural production. |
